A DOCUMENTARY FILM THAT EXPOSES THE TRUTH OF WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO BE AFRICAN-AMERICAN IN THE JIM CROW SOUTH...IS COMING TO MONTCO. “YOU BELONG TO ME...SEX RACE AND MURDER IN THE SOUTH” EXPLORES THE MURDER TRIAL OF THE WEALTHIEST BLACK WOMAN IN FLORIDA IN THE 19-50’S. THE FILM WHICH IS PART OF MONTCO’S LIVELY ARTS FILM SERIES WILL BE PRESENTED ON OCTOBER 18TH IN THE SCIENCE CENTER AUDITORIUM. AFTERWARDS A DISCUSSION WILL BE LED BY THE FILM’S CREATOR.

WOODSON IS KNOWN FOR HER INSPIRING NOVELS INCLUDING THE AWARD-WINNING “BROWN GIRL DREAMING.” DURING HER SPEECH WOODSON TALKED ABOUT HER LIFE...HOW SHE BECAME A WRITER...THEN READ EXCERPTS OF “BROWN GIRL RISING.” AFTER THE SPEECH...WINNERS OF THE PRESIDENTIAL SYMPOSIUM POETRY CONTEST READ THEIR WORKS AND PARTICIPATED IN A DISCUSSION PANEL WITH MISS WOODSON.
